Scotty Donaldson looks at the Scotland win over Australia and wonders if more upsets are on the way. Also, Scotland need to improve their celebrations as two of their players headbutted each other!
Scotland defeated Australia 9-6 in their Tuesday night test match in Newcastle tonight. The match was played in disgustingly wet and windy conditions, but it must be said that the most entertaining part of this match was seeing Scotland players Alasdair Strokosch and Joe Ansbro headbutting each other as part of the Scotland celebration after the Scotland win (video provided). They probably don't care since they won and probably haven't had much practice celebrating. Scotland scored a last minute penalty through Greig Laidlaw. There were no tries in this match, mainly because of conditions.
Did Australia see this match as a curtain raiser for their test series against Wales this weekend? That explains why they took this game to Newcastle, but it is crazy how they lost to Scotland and it shows that Australia doesn't have the same depth as South Africa or New Zealand. This result also suggests that the lack of preparation time will be a problem for the Southern Hemisphere teams this weekend and watch for tougher than expected matches because the Northern Hemisphere teams have had a more lengthy preparation.
What did you think of the Scotland win over Australia? What were Alasdair Strokosch and Joe Ansbro thinking? Do you think this means that the Northern Hemisphere teams will be more difficult to beat than expected? Watch the headbutt video here.
