The Rugby Championship Round 1 Team of the Round has been found with All Blacks hooker Keven Mealamu the clear winner. He scored 410 points at www.testrugby.com. His points come courtesy of 14 lineouts, 5 tackles and 6 scrums. This team of the week mainly includes All Blacks and Springboks who both won over the weekend. There were plenty of low scores this round due to plenty of penalties and handling mistakes made. There were some disappointing players this week including David Pocock, Keegan Daniel and Kieran Read.
Bismarck du Plessis is injured and so if you picked Adriaan Strauss, then well done. The outside backs, inside backs and front rowers were the best scoring players, while the midfield backs scored surpringly low despite the usually high scoring players like Ma'a Nonu, Sonny Bill Williams and Jean De Villiers in action.
There were also no four try bonus points over the weekend so not many players got extra bonus points. There was only one real bargain with Marcell Coetzee the buy of the round. It will be interesting to see what the selectors do heading into the second round of matches. Some players like Quade Cooper could be given a go, while Du Plessis and David Pocock will no longer take part in the competition.
There is only one player from Argentina, but there are five All Blacks, five Springboks and one Wallabies player.
