Here are some things that managers should know.
For Super Rugby fans, the competition is almost at the halfway stage with eight rounds giving tipsters an opportunity to get a gauge on the form horses for 2015.
For those playing fantasy rugby game www.testrugby.com, we are also naming players to watch. You can also join the Super Rugby Tips conference at SuperBru. It is difficult to afford a team if playing salary cap fantasy rugby, so you may have to buy bargains, but there are enough new players in Super Rugby 2015 to give you some options. 2015 seems tough to fill a squad without going over budget. The key is to sell players who have the bye straight away and buy them back early.
In fantasy rugby game www.testrugby.com there are some problems. You have to wait a week until Round 10 to get 18 more trades, but unfortunately this weekend the Hurricanes, Chiefs and Rebels have the bye, while next weekend, although at least the popular players from the Highlanders and Waratahs are available this week. The other problem is that some stars, especially from the Springboks are getting rested, with Duane Vermeulen missing again while the points scoring machine Pat Lambie is injured for six weeks which is a kick in the teeth for those who wasted a trade to buy him back for last week after he was rested. The other problem is that cheap Chiefs winger James Lowe and other good points scorers like Reg Goodes, James Broadhurst, Julian Savea, Nehe Milner-Skudder and Beauden Barrett (all Hurricanes) and Rebels players like Pat Leafa, Luke Jones, Mitchell Inman and Sean McMahon (Rebels) have the bye.
Managers have to look long-term, teams like the Brumbies and Bulls look like having safe runs, with the stars in the Brumbies like Stephen Moore and backs like Christian Lealiifano, Joe Tomane and Henry Speight good options, while Handre Pollard is the Bulls player to buy, assuming he is back this week, while Bernard Foley and Israel Folau from the Waratahs are good options too.
There are plenty of injuries too, so it is important to check the Super Rugby team lists.
If you run out of trades then you have to minimise the damage with locks probably the lowest scoring position to have a non player in. Also if you are keeping players who have the bye or are injured, make sure you keep the cheapest players as their values will drop less and they won’t take up as much of the salary cap. In some games like www.testrugby.com you can buy trades if you are desperate.
