How much do the Crusaders pay the officials? 13 views 5 Comments

I really wonder why I watch the Crusaders playing on their home turf... the blatant favoritism makes a mockery of the game.

The ref whistled the Chiefs off the park in the first half, then frustration by the Chiefs kicked in and they cracked.

I ask why in the first half:

Why was a Crusader not sent to the bin for the blatant professional fouls of interfering with the ball just before the Chiefs scored their first try? That try could have been scored under the posts instead of a hopeful kick wide.
Why was Guildford not sent to the bin for a blatant knock down of a pass right in front of the touchie - it didn't even attract the very kick-able penalty.
Why was Crockett allowed to have his hand on ground for nearly an entire scrum while in front of his posts, right in front of the ref?
Why was Crockett allowed a blatant side entry to a tackle situation while on attack (Chiefs were blown for this all night.)
How the hell was Read awarded the try at the end of the first half? The ball may have been seen on the ground, but zero TV evidence suggested a Crusader hand was giving controlled downward pressure?

Meantime the Chiefs were instantly blown for every possible hint of wrongful play.

The Chiefs didn't help themselves with multiple sloppy mistakes, but I was almost wondering why they even bothered to run out in the second half. I think they may have wondered the same given how they started it.

The Crusaders are a quality side, but let's see an even contest.

	5 . Crouching Taiga 12 Jul 2013 05:04 PM 5de Span, I never said it was a rule. I just said the Chiefs were given a try with an element of doubt - in that situation "the benefit went to the attacking team". As a matter of consistency, it should've with the Crusaders try too - and it did.
	4 . DestructiveX 11 Jul 2013 02:23 PM If you wanted to see a team penalised out of the game by officials watch the Blues - Cheetahs game. However the rules leave so much to interpretation there is little that can be done.The team you follow often looks to be getting a raw deal because you watch what the opposition is doing wrong more than your own team.Then there is the comentators of course as in the case of McGaw where Ozzie commentators focus on McGaw and everything he does whereas when George Smith does thesame thing it is looked upon in wonder as skill. You would have a lot more to complain about if the you had to rely on interpretation as much as do the officials in Aussie Rules. I say stop griping and be thankful for the flawed system we have - it could be a lot worse.
	3 . 5de Span 07 Jul 2013 10:21 PM @Deep As a neutral, I agree. In some games it just seems the refs are almost scared to blow the saders. Much like a lot of refs let McCaw get away with so much And Taiga - there's no "Benefit of doubt to the attacking team". That's BS. It simply doesn't work that way. There has to be NO doubt at all - that's the rule isn't it.
	2 . The Swede Eaters 06 Jul 2013 01:38 PM The rugby rules are so open to interpretation that it makes things difficult. There are so many rules in rugby that referees tend to have pet areas that they focus on as if they blew everything up then it would be such a slow game.
	1 . Crouching Taiga 06 Jul 2013 02:41 AM Sounds like sour grapes to me. No amount of "favoritism" makes you 43-15 losers. Chiefs were outplayed. Players are rarely binned for pass knock downs, not surprised Guildford wasn't. Scrums....well, throw to dice each and every game for every team. No consistency for ANY of the teams, Chiefs included. Re: Read's try, he had the ball as he dived over the line. Ball down over the try-line, it's not rocket science to see that most likely it was Read who still had control of it. Benefit of doubt to the attacking team - much like it was given to the Chiefs first try.
