Super Rugby tips for Round 7 and the analysis of the first six rounds.
I have been doing some number crunching on results from Super Rugby 2011 and the statistics don't lie with 23 victories (58%) for the home team compared with 16 (40%) for the away teams. While the home team has dominated it isn't by as much as expected and the most common result is either Home 13+ (30%) or Away 12- (30%) with Home 12- (28%) also common. There were also only 4 away wins by 13 or more points. So when in doubt, it is no longer obvious to go home team 12 and under.
Super Rugby action kicks off in my home town of Invercargill as the Highlanders come off the bye and host the Brumbies. Hopefully the Highlanders can rekindle their form from the first few rounds in the southern most city in New Zealand. The Brumbies have been disappointing so far this season and it will be a tough game away from Canberra.

Pick: Home team by 13 & above
What has happened to the Waratahs? They hit the wall after looking so impressive in the early rounds. It has been no coincidence that their performance levels dropped once they lost some of their better players like Berrick Barnes, Phil Waugh and Polotau Nau. The Chiefs are hot and cold. I think they will struggle away from home.

Pick: Home team by 12 & under
The Blues have been struck down with injury, but assuming they can field a relatively healthy squad they should win easily against the Cheetahs. Luke MacAlister is finding his feet and assuming conditions are dry, the Blues should easily beat the hardworking Cheetahs. It can be difficult being expected to win.

Pick: Home team by 13 & above
Both of these teams are weaker than previous seasons. One would think that the Hurricanes can't possibly drop any lower into the New Zealand conference cellar. The Bulls are a mixed bag on the road.

Venue: Westpac Stadium
Pick: Home team by 12 & under
There is illness in the Force camp returning from South Africa. The Rebels have been mud away from home, while the Force have got some class and assuming they recover from their road trip, they should win.

Venue: ME Bank Stadium
Pick: Home team by 12 & under
The Lions vs the Reds is a tough one to pick. The Lions have been anything but pushovers in the opening rounds, but have lost plenty of tight ones which leaves you wondering if they are the new Highlanders? The Reds should win if conditions are hard and fast.

Pick: Away team by 12 & under
This is a Springboks trial match with plenty of talent on display. I am picking the Stormers to win away because the Sharks may be travel weary. There are so many matchups on display in this mouth-watering clash.

Pick: Away team by 12 & under
