Five/Six game format?
Long rugby seasons in Europe are quickly deteriorating performances on summer tours.
Because of that players are more incline to injuries and compromising games expectancies.
So, I believe that a shorter Tour would be much more beneficial in terms of quality. Why?
5 game format = 2 top clubs, 3 host nation.
6 game format = 3 clubs, 3 host nation.
5 or 6 games would make the Lions tour more difficult and in my opinion better. The host country should pick their best club teams on their conference and hopefully pull in more first starting XV players then second string. The Lions player's selection would be quite hard (fun) but less painful. Not to mention less logistics when it comes to call players around the world to replace the injured ones.
It would give also, I guess, less stress on the host country's national team and might help them to get ready for the upcoming RC.
Blasphemy? Maybe. But at least an idea.
