Steve Hansen has experience in Wales and has been an assistant coach under Henry in recent times. He knows the players and the system, so he could be the ideal candidate in the post Henry era.
There are plenty of other New Zealand coaches plying their trade both in New Zealand and overseas.
Former All Black John Kirwan has finished with Japan now following a good stint there and in Italy. Is it too soon for him?
Former All Black fullback Kieran Crowley worked wonders with Canada after performing well as Taranaki coach, does this make him suitable?
Former All Black Number Eight John Mitchell is over in South Africa coaching the Lions, but he has been an All Blacks coach before, and had experience in England.
Can Warren Gatland get a release from Wales where he has turned them into a very good young side? Would he want to leave them now that they are looking so promising?
John Plumtree has furthered his career in South Africa with the Sharks, but probably isn't ready.
Some coaches in New Zealand that could be options heading forward include
Wayne Smith who is the current assistant coach after being the head coach before has probably decided to move on since he is off to the Chiefs.
Coaches like Dave Rennie, Jamie Joseph, Todd Blackadder and Pat Lam have had some good stints this season, although it is probably thought that they are still not ready for the top job.
Who else could be a potential All Blacks coach?
Jake White and Nick Mallett are two excellent former Springboks coaches and they could be looking for a gig in New Zealand, but would New Zealanders want their All Blacks coached by a foreigner?
Australian Steve Rixon turned the fortunes of the New Zealand cricket team around, why shouldn't we get a foreign coach if they are the best at the job?
Another option could be Australian Ewen McKenzie who really turned the Queensland Reds around this season. He could be trapped since Robbie Deans has extended his contract with the Wallabies and so he could be looking for a gig in New Zealand.
So, who do you think will be the next All Blacks coach? I think that Graham Henry could stay on and blood the new coach with Steve Hansen the main candidate. It would be great to get Warren Gatland, but he could be better served with the impressive Wales team. It is an embarrassment of riches for New Zealand having so many top quality coaches available, but would we ever have a foreign coach for the All Blacks? I doubt it!
