Super Rugby Preview Part 1 - Picking Winners 10 views

Scotty Donaldson picks the winners for Super Rugby Round 5, do you agree? Who are you picking to win?
Super Rugby Round 4 saw four of the seven matches end in upset results. The South African sides surprised the Blues and Highlanders in New Zealand with their physical style. The Brumbies thrashed the Waratahs, The Hurricanes pipped the Crusaders, The Reds continued their easy ride with a relatively comfortable win over the Rebels, while the Kings were tougher to beat than the Sharks would have expected.
Round 5 sees the Stormers, Rebels and Blues have the bye. There are two certain results in my opinion with the Chiefs and Reds likely victors, while the other four will be closer.
The Highlanders vs Hurricanes match is a bit of a mate on mate affair with heaps of Highlanders players from the Hurricanes franchise region, even the coach!
My bounce back theory
Because there were some one sided surprise results last week, I am picking two teams on the receiving end last week, both the Highlanders and Waratahs to bounce back. The Cheetahs were awesome in Invercargill, but we forget that they lost by plenty to the Chiefs the week before. I am expecting that both the Highlanders and Waratahs will have been drilled at training this week and will be far more vigilant against two of the better attacking teams around.
I am also picking the Crusaders to bounce back from the criticism about their poor start to the season by coming back to beat the Bulls. They won't be caught on the hop by the extra physical style that the big South African sides bring to the game like the Blues and Highlanders were.
The Chiefs and Reds look like two sure victors, with special moments ahead. Liam Messam plays his 100th match against the Kings, while Will Genia returns for the Reds to face the Force. The Reds seem to have a really easy draw!
The Brumbies travel to South Africa and play the Sharks which is another one of these tough matches to pick.
I think there is plenty of money to be made this week with some good touring sides on the road paying some impressive money if they win.
