Super Rugby Round 10 saw a few interesting results. It seems clear that the Australian teams have the edge over their trans-tasman rivals. Do you agree?
The Waratahs upset win over the Chiefs was a massive upset in Super Rugby Round 10
Super Rugby Round 10 saw some interesting results with the Waratahs 25-20 win over the Chiefs picked by only 11 percent of SuperBru punters. The Chiefs haven't won in Sydney since 2007 and so it seems that form against particular opponents is more crucial in the outcoming of matches than actual form sometimes. I was stoked to pick this result!
The closest game of Super Rugby Round 10 was the draw between the Reds and Brumbies which ended in a 19 all draw. Only 0.53% percent of SuperBru punters picked this result.
The Cheetahs defeated the Sharks which was only picked by 20 percent of SuperBru punters, making for a third upset, although this one was slightly less surprising.
The Hurricanes, Crusaders and Bulls recorded predictable victories, although the margins were a bit surprising! The Highlanders showed that you can't keep losing possession at lineouts and still expect to win!
The Australian teams have shown that they have the edge on New Zealand sides with seven wins from nine matches. It seems that the kiwis have a love of attacking rugby which is becoming too predictable. Sometimes territory is more important and accurate kicking can produce extra pressure on teams.
The Super Rugby 2013 championship table is so congested. Two Australian teams have the most points, as the Australian conference is a two horse race. The Brumbies and Reds are playing well at the moment and beating many New Zealand teams. The Waratahs are improving and are very tough to beat at home. Even the Rebels and Force are no longer easy-beats. Selection in the Wallabies squad to play the British and Irish Lions is proving to be a huge motivation for the Australian players.
The New Zealand conference is a bunfight with the Blues now top, there are five points between the top four teams. The New Zealand teams are far from convincing at this stage of the competition, with the Chiefs losing their last two games, the Crusaders lost to the Force last week, while the Blues and Hurricanes are far from convincing. The Highlanders still haven't won a game.
The South African conference has an even tighter look about it with the Bulls leading one point ahead of the Cheetahs and Sharks, with the Stormers three points adrift. It isn't ideal for them having so many good teams, making it difficult for any one team to get a break on the field. The Bulls and Cheetahs are in favourable positions having been on tour. This is somewhat surprising given that most teams picked the Sharks and Stormers to dominate this conference at the start of the season. The Southern Kings have been surprisingly competitive this season, despite their 34-0 loss to the Bulls.
Do you think the Australian teams can continue to dominate the New Zealand teams?
Have your say!
