Hurricanes vs Crusaders Cancelled 8 views

I can't remember a top level rugby match being cancelled before, but
the Christchurch earthquake has claimed another victim, the Super Rugby
match between the Hurricanes and the Crusaders in Wellington. Both
teams will take two points from the match, which would be a good result
for the Hurricanes based on how they played last week! This outcome is
completely understandable given the circumstances, with life far more
important than rugby (there I have said it!).
This result means both these teams are yet to win a match and despite a
long competition, plenty of punters would have put money on the
Crusaders to finish at least the New Zealand conference top and win the
overall competition, but that is looking less likely. If the Blues or
the Highlanders win, they will get a healthy jump on the red and
blacks, who were paying around $4 to win the entire competition a week
ago! My money on Israel Dagg for top try scorer also looks scratchy!
People in pick the player fantasy rugby and virtual picking will have
to make necessary changes, although administrators are surely
understandable.
The future of home matches for the Crusaders and Canterbury looks in
jeopardy, with likely moves to Nelson, Blenheim or Timaru for home
matches. AMI Stadium looks worse for wear like everywhere in
Christchurch it seems.
The Rugby World Cup fixtures in Christchurch also look under threat,
but with the lives of plenty of people still at risk, it will take a
while to assess contingency plans. It could be a logistical nightmare
for tourists who have booked and paid ages ago for Christchurch quarter
finals and pool games. These matches could easily be transferred
around the country if needed. We like to look out for each other in a
small country like New Zealand!
