Scott Donaldson looks at the Team of Round Three and gives some pointers looking ahead to the finals.
The Rugby World Cup 2011 Team of Round Three based on www.testrugby.com statistics has an interesting look about it with Springbok halfback Francois Hougaard securing a whopping 920 points against Namibia. It seems that players in teams who dominate (against the minnows) and score tries succeed, although there are a few things to watch out for. It pays to select players in teams who will not be substituted early or at half time as a precaution. It also helps when they play for teams with less depth in some regards, because it means they will play back to back matches and get plenty of minutes throughout the tournament. While goal kickers do well, I think the sharp running players who beat defenders get the most points against the minnows. With trades at a premium, it is a matter of picking players who will start both this week against an easy beat and in the quarter finals.

1) Australia and New Zealand have easy matches this round and plenty of injuries to their backs especially, so there could be some big point scorers in the backs if you pick the correct players. Hopefully these teams get named soon. Radike Samo is tipped to play on the wing and could score plenty of tries against Russia. Who will kick for Australia?
2) Be careful because Francois Hougaard may not start again this tournament given that Fourie Du Preez usually occupies that position.
3) While they may not score the huge points they did in previous rounds, at least Wales, Ireland, England, France and South Africa should all win, but will have to play their top sides. This is good because it means that most players who take the field this weekend will also play in the quarter finals, so plan ahead.
4) Select players from teams likely to make the semi finals. New Zealand are obvious candidates, so pick plenty of All Blacks who are named this weekend to dominate Canada and will be likely to play Argentina in the semi final.
5) Don't pick any players from Japan, Namibia, USA or Romania no matter how desperate you get because they have finished playing at this tournament.
Who do you think will go well in the next matches and who did you want to see in the Team of Round Three?
