Super Rugby Round 8 is over and there were some major upsets. Scotty Donaldson looks at the results.
Super Rugby Round 8 was a funny old round. There were two surprise results with the Southern Kings holding the Brumbies to a draw only predicted by 0.04 percent of SuperBru punters, leaving many tipsters of some repute like me red faced! The Rebels victory over the Force was also a surprise of sorts, although given that these two teams are near the bottom of the table, it was hardly as surprising as the result in Canberra.
The Blues and Hurricanes secured comfortable wins in the end as predicted by most. The only good thing for the Highlanders is that Ma'a Nonu may actually be suspended following his shoulder charge on Piri Weepu (is this the first Super Rugby game these two have played against each other?). Nonu gave away some crucial penalties and while he was away in the sinbin for the no arms tackle on Weepu, the Blues scored twice. Why is it that the Highlanders just can't score tries as easily as their opponents who tend to counter-attack and score plenty of long range tries?
The Sharks and Cheetahs secured close victories in matches which split the punters when it came to making their picks.
