With two rival codes NRL and AFL having ANZAC Day games makes me wonder if Super Rugby should follow suit to remain competitive in the footy market.
Both AFL and NRL footy codes are having matches on ANZAC Day, but should there be a Super 15 Rugby match on too? Most shops are closed and people have to take the day off work, so it would be a great time for a Thursday game either in the afternoon or evening.
The Sydney Swans are playing St Kilda Saints in Wellington in what is the first proper AFL regular season game outside of Australia.
There will also be two NRL matches on with the Dragons playing the Roosters and the Storm playing the New Zealand Warriors. This is after the ANZAC test on last Friday night.
Should Super 15 Rugby have an ANZAC Day game? Well, it would have to be played between an Australian and New Zealand side, but it could be a short turnaround from the previous weekend, while it would also give both teams the chance to have a few extra days recovery before the next round, but I think if Super Rugby is to remain competitive in the footy market, they need an ANZAC Day match depending on what day of the week ANZAC Day falls.
Do you think Super 15 Rugby should have an ANZAC Day game?
