Do you think Stephen Larkham will actually consider returning to Super Rugby at the age of 37? It shows the lack of depth in Australian rugby at the moment!
Brumbies coach Jake White is desperate for an experienced first five
eighth to lead his team into the finals for the first time since 2004
and 37 year old Stephen Larkham could be his man.
Christian Lealiifano suffered a season-ending broken ankle last weekend,
and Matt Toomua has already had a knee reconstruction, so they have ran
out of options to guide their inexperienced backline.
Larkham has played 100 tests for Australia and last played Super Rugby
in 2007, but was playing in Europe up until the start of last year.
It shows how desperate the Brumbies are, but surely there are more
viable options. Matt Giteau would be a more realistic option, although
players like him, Peter Hewat, Craig Gower and Craig Wing would have to
take large pay cuts to return to Super Rugby for the Brumbies.
They have some really green players in Robbie Coleman and Zac Holmes,
but it is such an important position and experience counts for plenty at
first five eighth, especially if you want to make the finals.
Is Bernie Larkham's body too beaten up to return to Super Rugby at the age of 37?
