Robbie Fruean continues to be suffering from his heart ailment and is out for two months. Should he keep playing rugby?
Chiefs centre Robbie Fruean is out of Super Rugby for one to two months after getting treatment for an irregular heartbeat. Fruean lasted only 21 minutes off the bench against the Stormers before being replaced after suffering a shortness of breath. This will put him out of the Chiefs trip to South Africa and potentially raises question marks over his future in the game in my opinion.
I think given the lack of quality centres in New Zealand and Fruean's blockbusting ability it is extremely disappointing, but Fruean who is 25 might have to make a call soon on his future. He rarely lasted 80 minutes in a game for the Crusaders in his younger days and missed the entire Super Rugby season last year because of his condition.
We have already seen Highlanders winger Buxton Popoalii forced into retirement after a heart complaint.
With Rene Ranger now in France, there aren't many other big bulky centres in New Zealand with the exception of Maá Nonu and so Fruean does add plenty with his presence in any backline, the only problem is that if he can't be relied upon to finish a game, then his future in the game could be in doubt.
What do you think? Is Robbie Fruean still valuable to the Chiefs or do you think he may have to hang up the boots?
