No justice!
I simply can not understand how James Slipper clearly tip tackles a guy and gets off scot free. Recently James Kamana got a three week ban for the same offence. Apparently the Judicial Officer was not satisfied that, "on the balance of probability", Slipper's tackle breached law 10.4(j). Makes no sense to me - the law reads : "Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play". Google image-search the subject and tell me that's not exactly what Slipper did.
Furthermore, as far as I understand, the big cheeses in rugby law are trying really hard to eradicate the tip tackle and have asked referees to strongly consider a red card as punishment. That rarely happens. Rugby is not tiddlywinks, no, but are we willing to skirt the issue until a player dies or is paralysed in a Super Rugby game? Would a red card be made mandatory then?
Consistency is what everybody, especially the players, would like to see. Ask yourself this : If Bakkies Botha dumps someone on their head this weekend, what would happen? Surely he would be sited and punished heavily, as he should be. But Slipper gets off? No justice!
