The Rugby Championship Round 2 is here. Can anyone beat the All Blacks?
The All Blacks and Springboks sit at the top of the Rugby Championship 2013 following wins over the weekend, but they both had to work harder in Round 2 than they did in the 1st round. The turnaround from last weekend was immense, especially in Argentina where the Pumas were fired up and despite a few players being cited for foul play, they pushed the Springboks close before going down 22-17. It was a much improved performance by the Pumas, but it could be as close they get to a win this season, given that it must have been difficult for the Springboks to get inspiration after winning the week before by so much.
The All Blacks beat the Wallabies 27-16. They were perhaps a bit lucky not to lose anyone to the bin against the Wallabies in Wellington. There was a period in the first half when the Wallabies opened up the All Blacks defence and threatened, but were stopped by desperate/borderline defence. The All Blacks defence was impressive as the game went on and they seemed to score at will once they had weathered the Wallabies storm. The Wallabies loose forwards impressed me and Israel Folau's try was a deserved consolation try.
In SuperBru, most punters went for the All Blacks and Springboks double, although both matches were closer than expected. Damage still has the lead, while most people got the Grand Slam Point which wasn't difficult to get.
The Springboks now look like the only team capable of beating the All Blacks, but they won't be able to switch off like they did against the Pumas. It will be interesting to see if the Wallabies have been disappointing or the All Blacks have been too good. Time will tell. The Springboks vs Wallabies is the game of The Rugby Championship Round 3.
