There are still more home wins in Super Rugby 2011, but there are 44% of wins by the away team and the away team by 12 and under is the most common result. What do you think has caused this?
Super Rugby analysis has unveiled some interesting statistics. The most popular result for those punters in picking competitions is no longer to pick the home team by 12 and under, but the away team by 12 and under. That is right, while home teams have won 55% of matches, the most common result is the away team by 12 and under with 30% of results. The home team by both 12 and under and 13 and over are just as common as each other with 28% each.
This means that there are three very common options if you are in doubt. The only problem is that simply picking the winner is more difficult with 44% of matches being won by the away team.
What has caused these results?
The days of the home ground advantage being worth 10 or 20 points are gone. These days there are more neutral referees, teams are more used to travelling and there are more local derbies between teams from the same country which make home ground advantage less of a factor.
How are your picks going? Why do you think there have been so many away wins?
