The Super Rugby playoff race tightened up with several results bringing the field closer together heading into the last four rounds. Scotty Donaldson looks at Super Rugby Round 14.
The race for the Top Six has heated up with the two top South African teams (Bulls and Stormers) and the top Australian side (Brumbies) losing matches while teams on the fringe of inclusion in the Top Six like the Hurricanes, Highlanders, Sharks and Reds all had victories.
Super Rugby 2012 is getting exciting, but I am left wondering what effect the break for the international rugby window will have on the momentum of this competition?
The next four weeks sees plenty of teams in contention playing each other. The Bulls play the Stormers next week while the Highlanders, Chiefs and Crusaders all have to play each other.
The Hurricanes in particular were devastating against the Rebels recording a resounding 66-24 win. Players to make their mark on this game included new All Blacks training squad members Beauden Barrett and Julian Savea and the devastating tackling of reserve hooker Motu Matu'u who left two Rebels players Mark Gerrard and Lachlan Mitchell seriously injured. Should he have been cited for these tackles?
The Cheetahs and Force won the only two matches involving teams out of contention. The Cheetahs and Waratahs game was a very open match with defence low on the priority list, while the Force won an ugly match against the Lions.
