Wales have been handed a double as they look to defy the latest odds in the second test against Australia, after learning that George North and Scott Williams are expected to shake off injury niggles in time to feature in Melbourne.
North picked up a dead leg during the 27-19 first Test defeat to the Wallabies in Brisbane, while his Scarlets team-mate Williams is recovering well from the facial injuries he sustained in the same game.
Caretaker coach Rob Howley, who is standing in for Warren Gatland on the tour, is confident they will both be available to him at the weekend.
"We are hoping they will both be able to train fully on Thursday,” he said. "Touch wood they will both be available for selection for Saturday."
Meanwhile, Alex Cuthbert and Aled Brew both sustained injuries during the midweek 25-15 victory against Brumbies.
Brew injured his hip and, when Cuthbert came on to replace him, he had to be taken off as a precaution in the second half when he went down in a heavy tackle.
"We were cautions sending Alex on. He's obviously gone down and it is nothing untoward really and I think he will be fine for selection for the weekend," added Howley.
Meanwhile, Australia coach Robbie Deans has told news sport networks that he thinks the Wallabies still have room for improvement following their first Test victory, particularly as he has discovered his team missed 29 tackles during the match.
"They will have seen some opportunity in our defensive effort that they could profit off," Deans said.
"And they did anyway, on the night. It wasn't flawless by any stretch of the imagination, but we're aware of that.”
