The quarter finals of the 2015 RWC have an interesting slant - 4 Southern Hemisphere teams v 4 Northern Hemisphere teams. Let's take a look at what this could mean!
The stage is set for history to be written, embarrassment and gloating pride may come to the fore.
WHAT IF...
South Africa beats Wales
Probable - Wales is injury ravaged, while SA are getting it together.
AND
New Zealand beats France
Probable - But some may say "yeah right! It's knockout time in the UK, not a final on Eden Park home soil y'know..."
AND
Argentina beats Ireland
Possible. The Argies have become a genuine force while Ireland is missing half their squad to injuries and penalty...
AND
Australia beats Scotland
Probable, the Ozzies are playing hot and it's hard to see the Scots stepping up the amount they'd need to.
What if all four Southern Hemisphere teams do get a "W" this weekend?
I sure wouldn't want to be from the north, in the north. A cold winter frost may descend and spoil the massive party that the RWC is. Meantime a rowdy party rumble may boom from the south, spearheaded by a smart few who managed to venture north and revel. (maybe a few cheap tickets will surface, and a few more can cross the equator to join in)
What if the four Northern Hemisphere say "up yours" to my predictions and all score a big "W" this weekend?
Well... guaranteed the pending summer months in the south will disintegrate into the longest, darkest night of shame. TV's will be switched off and recognition that a RWC even exists will be slim. In the north, I'm sure there'd be a rapid switch of accent, a change of colors and a few more temporary converts hiding in the mass revelry that would erupt.
I think that it's a real possibility. What are your predictions?
PS.
What about we just make one giant game 320 minutes long and with unlimited subs - pitch the hemispheres against each other! Mammoth!
