Worcester Warriors continued their preparations for the 2013/14 season this week after revealing they have signed Tongan prop Ofa Fainga’anuku, who will join the squad in the summer from Glasgow.
Fainga’anuku, 30, has played just 11 games for the Scottish side since joining last September and his place in the team is under threat from fellow props Moray Low and Ed Kalman.
With Glasgow seemingly comfortable in that position that have taken the decision to let Fainga’anuku go, much to the delight of Aviva Premiership rugby betting fans.
“Ofa is a very powerful man and will be one of the strongest in our squad,” Worcester boss Richard Hill told BBC Sport.
“He is a big man but moves very quickly, a dynamic ball carrier and very good in defence which comes from his rugby league background.”
Indeed, at 19-and-a-half stone Fainga’anuku is set to dominate Worcester’s forward lines next season and is exactly what this under-strength team need if they are to make the top six in 2014.
They are already set for a mid-table finish that, given recent seasons, is a good result for Hill and his men but clearly there are signs the boss wants to move forward.
Fainga’anuku’s arrival will give fans in the betting world an incentive to back Worcester next season and don’t be surprised is the Tongan international makes an immediate impact in the Premiership.
He is the second prop to join the Warriors this week after Paul Andrew signed from Cornish Pirates, meaning Worcester have a much stronger line for the new campaign.
If the pair work well on arrival at Sixways Stadium then Worcester could be on track for a Heineken Cup berth by the end of next season – a feat not outside their grasp with two new props at the helm.
