Selection Dilemma Good for England 6 views 0 Comments 0 Images

Mike Catt has welcomed the selection dilemma facing England's management team ahead of Sunday's Six Nations match against Ireland in Dublin.

England, who finished second behind Wales in 2012, began this season's campaign in fine style with a four-try victory over Scotland at Twickenham last weekend.

Billy Twelvetrees grabbed a close-range try on debut, while Brad Barritt continues to impress fans on Betfair in midfield, particularly in defence. Manu Tuilagi has recovered from an ankle injury and could return to the team, meaning one of last week's starters would miss out.

Catt believes competition for places can only strengthen England, stating it is "great to have a selection dilemma at this level"

"From a team point of view you have three guys and each of them brings special attributes. It is great Billy has come along and. performed the way he did against Scotland on his debut," said England's skills coach.

"Manu has been out of the game for three or four weeks. We will see how they all train and we will go accordingly from there."

The 38-18 win over the auld enemy saw England build on December's historic triumph over New Zealand. Stuart Lancaster's men are well placed for an assault on the Six Nations crown, but much will rest on their trip across the Irish Sea.

Ireland piled misery on Wales in their tournament opener in Cardiff and appear determined to win a first title since 2009.

France's shock defeat in Italy blew the rugby union betting stakes wide open, handing England and Ireland a golden opportunity. A victory for England in Dublin would set them up perfectly with home matches against France and Italy to follow.

Ireland destroyed England's Grand Slam hopes when the teams last met at the Aviva Stadium. England's young side will be out to avoid another crushing defeat on this occasion.
