Quins Secure Vital win in Chase for Top Four 8 views 0 Comments 0 Images

Harlequins fans hoping that their side have the mettle needed to keep within range of a top-four finish this season must have been pleased with the way their team ended a four-match losing streak at home to Bath last weekend.

Despite having not earned a Premiership point since late February, crashing out of the Heineken Cup quarters a week previous and falling to a 9-6 deficit at half time on Saturday, John Kingston’s men steeled themselves with a superb second-half comeback that should be enough to convince rugby betting fans to side with Quins to make the top four.

Danny Care gave the home side the lead with a determined touchdown out of the forwards line on 47 minutes before Ugo Monye was gifted a late try from Nick Evans’ long punt down field.

Although not the best of spectacles, the result was all that mattered for Quins director of rugby Conor O’Shea: “We’ve done so much right this season and met so many challenges and this was another challenge for us,” O’Shead told BBC Sport.

“We are looking forward to the run-in. We know we have one more game to win to be top four.”

Indeed, having claimed a crucial victory over chasers, Bath, the Twickenham side have rekindled their challenge for the top three, although Northampton will have something to say about that when the pair clash in the final round of league fixtures early in May.

That game is likely to settle who finishes third and fourth and, although both positions earn qualification for the playoffs, it is nevertheless important to get a good early win over your rivals before those demanding semi-finals.

This win should be enough to give Quins a fighting chance of defending their Premiership crown, although both Saracens and Leicester look far more efficient at seeing Aviva Premiership games off.
