The final round of the 2013 Six Nations Championship gets underway this Saturday with three mouth-watering ties of international rugby set to light up the sporting world.
Rugby fans will be eagerly anticipating the drama that the Six Nations bring, with England poised to complete a Grand Slam, Scotland to win three games in a tournament for the first time since 2006 and Italy and Ireland determined to improve.
Yet for first-points punters, it is how a team starts the match that matters – not who wins – and Saturday’s fixtures all offer safe opening-scoring bets on Betfair.com.
Italy v Ireland:
Neither side has performed well this year, yet it is Ireland who start the better of the two with three opening leads in four matches. Twice have they taken the lead through touchdowns – against Wales and France – and are a safe bet to score the first try on Betfair against a weak Italy line.
Wales v England:
Wales have scored first in two of their four games this Championship but England are the team to back when it comes to scoring first in Cardiff. England have opened the scoring within the first three minutes of all four of their Six Nations clashes and will do so again in search of a first Grand Slam since 2003.
France v Scotland:
The Scots have not scored a try in their last two games, scrum-half Greig Laidlaw kicking six penalties against Wales last weekend and four to beat Ireland at Murrayfield.
They are outsiders to point first and France, who earned the opening try through Wesley Fofana against England, are good favourites with Betfair 6 Nations pundits to cross the whitewash first.
