England in a ‘Brilliant Place’- Barritt 12 views 0 Comments 0 Images

England centre Brad Barritt believes that the experience that his team has gained since their narrow 19-12 defeat to Wales last year has left them in a ‘brilliant place’ as they prepare to take on Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

"In last year's game against Wales, this team was still pretty inexperienced. There have been great stepping stones along the way since then," Barritt said, reflecting on England’s drawn third test in South Africa last summer and their victory over New Zealand in the Autumn internationals.

“This team has learned a lot about what we need to do in international rugby. Without taking this next step, it would be a massive shame," he added.

Barritt, who has quietly secured England’s number 12 jersey with a string of assured displays, knows that, despite their strides forward, his side haven’t won anything yet and he expects the Welsh to give everything to hold on to their Six Nations crown.

"It is going to be a very tough physical battle, especially with what is at stake," Barritt said, but he was confident that England were in the best possible shape to win their first Grand Slam since 2003.

"This is a brilliant place to be. The amount of hard work that has been done since the team came together typifies what this team is about,” he added.

No one in the England camp typifies their new found passion and desire better than Brad Barritt. Barritt is unflashy and uncomplicated but he provides the perfect foil for Manu Tuilagi, and whilst the man on his outside shoulder will take most of the plaudits, he deserves a huge amount of credit for England’s change of fortune.

If Brad Barritt can help to keep the giant Welsh backline under wraps then England will go a long way towards winning the game. Having come this far Stuart Lancaster’s men will surely finish the job in Cardiff.
