General Info
Edit
|
Dan Carter is one of the genuine premier rugby players of the modern game, and when he hangs his boots will certainly have his name etched into the lists of all time greats. He brings a total game to the park, with incredible speed off the mark, a wicked fend, strong running, excellent punting, vision, stout defence and of course he is a great goal kicker.
Carter made his international debut in June 2003 against Wales. He was 21 years old at the time, and displayed signs of what was to come with a haul of 20 points. At the start of 2013 he had scored a phenomenal total of 1,385 points, easily the leading points scorer ever for any country, and a total that will surely be extended a lot more yet.
His early career saw him debut for Canterbury in 2002, and with the Crusaders in 2003. His position in these days was at inside centre (second-five-eighth). His move to fly-half (first-five-eighth) only came in 2005 after another star, Andrew Mehrtens, stepped aside.
His relationship with another great of the same era in Ritchie McCaw seems to be no coincidence in their drive at the heart of a number of winning teams. Both these guys have blazed and incredible record of leading fantasy points for many years.
His list of accolades is enormous:
