Barrett is one of New Zealand's promising players, having come through the ranks of the rugby system and making a name for himself on various fronts.
- Fullback for the New Zealand under 20 side, including scoring the winning try in the 33-32 victory over England in the final.
- Broke into and became a recognised member the New Zealand 7's during 2010 and contracted into 2011.
- Influential member of the Taranaki side that came a credible 3rd in the 2011 ITM Cup, including being named back of the year.
He comes from a strong pedigree with his father having clocked up 15 appearances for the Hurricanes during 1997 and 1998 plus 167 first class matches for Taranaki.
Barrett top scored in round 1 of the 2012 fantasy season with 475 fantasy points - credit to an all round quality performance including scoring one of the team's two tries and setting up the other. This is a massive feat consider he played for a 'rebuilding' Hurricanes team playing away to a strong Stormers side.
He went on to score a total of 197 game points through the season, and in doing so booked himself a space in the All Blacks for game time in the 2012 Rugby Championship and end of year tour to the north. Barrett is an exciting prospect, but has a challenge ahead while New Zealand enjoys rich pool of stand-offs.
