England hit by Tuilagi blow 6 views 0 Comments 0 Images

England have been hit by the news that centre Manu Tuilagi will miss the upcoming autumn internationals due to a torn pectoral muscle sustained in Leicester’s Premiership victory against Newcastle.

The powerful midfielder sustained the injury playing for his club side, which could now keep the Tigers star sidelined for up to two months, definitely ruling him out of England’s matches against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand, clashes which are already attracting plenty of attraction in the betting markets offered by the sportsbooks listed on thetop10bestonlinecasinos.com.

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill refused to put a time span on Tuilagi’s return to action, but did admit that the club expected it to be at least a couple of months before the 22-year old was able to get back to playing at the top level, with injuries to the pectoral muscles notoriously difficult to manage.

"Manu Tuilagi has a suspected torn pec muscle in his chest. He's having further investigation into that. Until we know exactly what the damage is it is hard to tell how long he will be out, but you'd think it is certainly weeks - potentially leading to months - rather than days,” admitted Cockerill.

Tuilagi’s injury comes on the back of the disappointing news that his regular centre partner for England, the talented Brad Barritt, will also be absent from England’s upcoming internationals with his foot problem. The injuries to Tuilagi and Barritt will have been the last thing England head coach Stuart Lancaster would have wanted right before a run of important test matches.

Tuilagi is still widely loved and admired among loyal England rugby fans for his display against New Zealand at Twickenham in 2012, with the centre involved in all three tries, scoring one after intercepting a pass brilliantly, and assisting in the other two. He most recently made the headlines after making “bunny ears” behind the head of Prime Minister David Cameron during a visit to 10 Downing Street by the victorious British and Irish Lions rugby union squad.

All that aside, though, the injuries to England’s first choice centre partnership could see Lancaster hand rugby league convert Kyle Eastmond a chance to establish himself in the national side after an impressive start to his international career in Argentina earlier this year. The Bath star, formerly a rugby league player, has caught the eye far and wide in the Premiership this season and could now be set for a leading role in this autumn’s test matches.
