Wales’ stand-in coach, Rob Howley, is aiming to keep up his side’s momentum against Scotland at the weekend by retaining Ryan Jones as skipper. As well as keeping up the momentum, he will surely be hoping that snubbing the returning Sam Warburton will motivate him to find his best form.
Ryan Jones missed out entirely on Wales’ first game of this season’s Six Nations but he was called back in to lead the side after Sam Warburton picked up a shoulder injury against the Irish.
Having led Wales to impressive victories over Italy and France - their first win in Paris in eight years, Howley thinks that it is only right to maintain Jones as captain.
"Ryan (Jones) has led the team to two wins and deserves to captain the side against Scotland," Howley said to the sports betting news. "I don't see any reason to change the dynamics. Ryan has been a great leader over the last two or three weeks.”
Whilst Sam Warburton will be pleased that Wales ended their nine game losing streak under Jones’ captaincy he will certainly be wishing that he had been the man to lead the revival but Howley is clear that the needs of the team must come first.
"I explained that situation to Sam. Obviously, he is disappointed. It is about the team dynamics, it is about how Ryan has led,” he said.
After a disappointing autumn series and start to their Six Nations campaign, Wales are starting to look back to their best.
If losing the captaincy can motivate Warburton to return to his most destructive form, then Wales will only continue to look stronger. Fans looking for somewhere to wager an in-play bet offer will expect to come away from Murrayfield with a victory on Saturday.
