Huddersfield have climbed all the way to the top of the Super League table following a 48-32 victory over Castleford.
The Giants did have to overcome a spirited Tigers comeback though in the second half. The home side led 30-0 after half an hour of the game and looked to be on course for a comfortable victory before the visitors fought back.
Danny Brough was the star man for Huddersfield as he scored 20 points in the game, including one of the six first half tries, all of which he converted. He is the highest goal-kicker in Super League in 2013 with 212 points, with Wigan’s Pat Richards his nearest rival with 166 points.
Michael Shenton started Castleford’s figthback as his try got them their first points on the board before Justin Carney and Daryl Clark both crossed the line to give Daryl Powell’s side hope.
Cas did get within just eight points of the Giants but it was Aaron Murphy’s late try which gave them home side some breathing space in the closing stages.
After 22 games into the season, Huddersfield lead the way in the table with 34 points. They will have to surrender that position if Wigan beat the current favourites in the rugby betting, St Helens, on Monday evening though. The Warriors have a game in hand over the Giants and are just point behind them.
Paul Anderson side will now have a week off as they did not qualify for the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup which take place next weekend. Their next tie is at home to Salford City Red on August 4. They will then face Wigan at the DW Stadium on August 9 which could prove popular with fans who bet on rugby.
