Sharks Confirm McLeod’s Departure 114 views 0 Comments 0 Images

South African scrumhalf Charl McLeod has agreed to leave Sharks and move to France in the summer after agreeing a two-year contract with Grenoble.

Grenoble are on course to feature in the end-of-season Top 14 play-offs as they are currently sixth in the table and, if considering a bet on rugby, they could be worth following.

The 30-year-old McLeod has won one cap for the Springboks, featuring in the game against the All Blacks in July 2011.

He also won a call-up to the South Africa squad for the end-of-year tour of Western Europe in 2010, although he failed to feature in any of the matches.

McLeod played for Western Province, the Golden Lions and Valke before moving to the Sharks in 2008 and scored five tries in 52 appearances for the team, winning two Currie Cups during his time in Durban.

The Sharks’ chief executive officer, John Smit, said of McLeod: "Charl has been an influential player for the Sharks over the last few years and we would like to thank him for his invaluable contribution to Sharks rugby. We wish him and his family the very best in France."

McLeod could be joined in Grenoble by another South African, the wing Gio Aplon, with the French side saying in a statement "We are simply awaiting him (Aplon) to send back a signed letter confirming his departure (from the Stormers).”

Aplon, 31, has been capped 17 times by the Springboks and scored five tries.

Grenoble have already made a host of high-profile signings in readiness for the 2014-15 season when rugby betting suggests they are likely to be one of the Top 14 pace-setters.

Racing-Metro's highly-rated flyhalf Jonathan Wisniewski, his team-mate Julien Brugnaut, Blues’ Jackson Willison and Dax's Remy Hugues have already committed themselves to Grenoble for next season.
