Beating New Zealand at Twickenham was England’s most memorable moment of 2012 and it shows just how strong Stuart Lancaster’s current side is when they click. They are no doubt the team to beat when the Six Nations kicks off next month.
Following the fantastic autumn internationals of 2012 all eyes are now turned to the mouth watering tournament as Europe’s top six countries go head to head during February and March.
Last year’s champions Wales seem to be in complete disarray at the moment. Despite a strong end to 2011 – where Warren Gatland’s side should have been competing in the World Cup final, yet were denied by a terrible refereeing decision during the semis – and securing a Grand Slam in the Six Nations, the back end of 2012 has been particularly disappointing. Defeats to Samoa, Argentina, New Zealand, and Australia capped off a dismal autumn international period for captain Sam Warbuton and his charges and their drop in the Rugby betting reflects this.
France are, as ever, blowing hot and cold while Ireland are in stage of restructuring as the old guard is slowly making way for new blood.
Scotland and Italy have a long way to come before they are a true force in northern hemisphere rugby, which leaves England in pole position on Betfair right now.
Led by Quins skipper Chris Robshaw, England endured a grilling in the press following some poor decision making against Australia and then South Africa at Twickenham in November. But then against the All Blacks everything clicked.
England are now the team to beat.
With players like Robshaw, Manu Tuilagi and Owen Farrell – England are developing a side that can beat anyone on their day. Next month’s Six Nations will be a chance to give that side the consistency that has been lacking since the 2007 World Cup.
