Bird Backs Tighe to Make Titans Impact 90 views 0 Comments 0 Images

Gold Coast Titans joint captain Greg Bird has been quick to welcome new signing Brad Tighe to the club and has backed his former Newcastle Knights teammate to do the business at Skilled Park.

Tighe, who joins the Titans from Penrith Panthers, is a direct replacement for Jamal Idris who heads in the opposite direction, and Bird is hopeful that he can continue to produce the kind of form that saw him touch down 41 times in his six seasons with Penrith.

"I'm stoked to have him. The last couple of years I've seen him it's been some of the best football I've seen him play," Bird said, according to the bet365 website.

Tighe and Bird previously played together in the junior ranks at Newcastle, but, when Bird moved on Cronulla, Tighe opted to stay and fight for a first team place. Now reunited, Bird is glad to be on Tighe’s side and he is confident that he will terrorise opposition defences in the same way that he has torn the Titans apart over the years.

"We've been the victims of some of Tighesy's best games. Last year he scored a 'hatty' (hat-trick) against us at the end of the season and blew us apart and the year before he pretty much did the same,” the World Cup winner said.

Whilst the Titans will certainly miss Jamal Idris, fans who gamble with bet365 know that Tighe is a proven performer and he is an ideal replacement.

Having finished just one spot off the play-offs last year, Bird and his team will be looking for a good start in 2014 to give themselves the best possible chance of making the top eight. First up for the Titans are Cronulla Sharks who they face at the Remondis Stadium on 10th March.
