All Blacks v Wallabies - Eden Park, 6 Aug 2011 26 views 0 Comments 24 Images

I made it to the much anticipated clash between the All Blacks and the Wallabies at Eden Park and was part of a massive crowd hoping for a great game.  For the most we weren't let down.  On a dry and relatively warm winter's night, the AB's ripped up the first half making it near impossible for the Wallabies to do anything more than scrap for a bit of face.  The second half was a lot closer, with the Wallabies scoring two well manufactured tries in the process of winning that half.

I've since listened to commentators talking up the AB's and saying how the green and golds must have taken a serious dent in confidence, especially one Mr Quade Cooper.  Personally I think the game was a LOT closer than the score represented, with a major difference being the bounce of the ball.  NZ got to convert every sniff where the Oz crew didn't, plus the last try for the AB's might have been fortunate off a possible knock-on from the restart.

These are two electric teams, and either has the potential to be a world beater on their night.

Eden Park as a facility technically came out a winner as well.  Walking into the ground had atmosphere with musicians and street theater adding flavour.  Queues were short and moving well, and even the necessary brown ale was fast to get - although it set me back about 3 weeks wages for few stubbies.  BUT overall atmosphere in the ground, for a packed stadium, was still VERY average.  Aucklanders' simply lack passion. The only way to understand this is to be at another stadium where the crowd is vocal and has feeling.  I hope the international flavour will turn it up a notch or two for the RWC.

Anyway, got a few good pics of the action.
