British and Irish Lions skipper Sam Warburton is clearly happy the squad has met up and are really getting started with their preparations for what will undoubtedly be a tough tour of Australia this summer.
Having got the squad together on Monday, half the players have now returned to their clubs for the climaxes to many of the major northern hemisphere tournaments over the next couple of weeks including the Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup.
The players remaining have now started drills with the Lions management and coaches and will certainly have an advantage for the early stages of the tour over the absent team-mates. The latest British Lions betting puts them as favourites to win their first tour since 1997.
Warburton knew about his selection as skipper long before the official announcement and the Wales flanker is clearly happy that the build-up ahead of the first Test against the Wallabies in Brisbane on June 22 is now underway.
The 24-year-old said: "We did our first rugby session yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, learning the calls. There's a bit more organisation at this moment in time - new line-outs for everyone - and that's probably going to be the biggest challenge for us, making sure that we're all singing off the same hymn sheet.
"We've said before in the press we'll go down there with the intention to play a lot of rugby, but obviously some groundwork is going to have to be done up front.
"It's going to be tough, it always is."
If you want to use your Lions Rugby free bet then you will soon be able to, with Gatland’s men set to play their first game of their summer tour in Hong Kong, with a clash against the Barbarians on June 1.
