The ears of Unibet rugby betting fans pricked up today when England captain Chris Robshaw announced he will not be satisfied unless he leads his team to Six Nations glory in 2014.
Stuart Lancaster's team ended this year with two wins and a defeat in the autumn internationals. They beat Australia and Argentina before becoming the latest side to lose to the unstoppable All Blacks.
New Zealand, who came through 2013 unbeaten, did not have things all their own way at Twickenham. They surrendered a comfortable early lead to trail 22-20 with 20 minutes remaining, before showing why there are world champions in the final quarter to leave with a 30-22 win.
There was no shame in losing to one of the best teams in history but England were nonetheless disappointed not to beat the All Blacks for the second time in 12 months.
"The over-riding feeling in the dressing room is one of disappointment but that is just how far we've come as a team," said coach Lancaster.
His skipper is already looking ahead to February and the start of the Six Nations, a tournament he has demanded England win after near misses in 2012 and 2013.
"We've now finished second in the Six Nations for the last two years and the only way for us to improve is to win it. That's the aim," said Robshaw.
"We had a pretty good campaign last season but unfortunately fell short at the final hurdle. The good teams don't fall short, they take their opportunities.
"The All Blacks didn't lose a game in the Rugby Championship. They are the benchmark, but we want to be better."
England begin their Six Nations campaign with a tough trip to France on February 1 before facing Scotland at Murrayfield the following weekend. They will hope to clinch the Grand Slam in Italy on March 15.
