General Info Edit Bismarck du Plessis is famous as an extremely strong, abrasive and tough opponent. He has earned the respect of the very best front rows in the world as he plies his trade in the position of hooker. While he has always been a special talent, it hasn't always been an easy road for du Plessis, usually being forced into a backup role as one John Smit - Springbok captain - stood in his way in both the Super Rugby and National teams. This changed during 2008 when Smit moved to tighthead prop, mostly so du Plessis could be accommodated at Hooker. He made his debut for South Africa during the 2007 Tri Nations series, playing along side his brother Jannie while taking on Australia. As Smit has aged and du Plessis has matured, he has cemented his place as the number one hooker in South Africa. He has played for South Africa in each of the last Rugby World Cups, in 2007 and 2011.
